i have a 15 watt florecesnt blub and it goes across the mid section of the tank top which also has a peice of plexi glass. so my question is, would the plexi glass melt or change shape if i leave it on for 12 hours and more? my tank is made out of plexi glass thanks. is it bad for the tank?

I seriously doubt that plexiglass will melt from a flouressant light.

No it won´t, it´s made for that kind of situations!

You could always buy a piece of glass for the top your tank...

no, it takes higher temps to start bending, if you buy too thin of material it will bow from the weight though, use 1/4" thick for lids

heat will bend it, but it has to be really hot. it would have to be so hot that you couldn't put your hand under it.thats how the bend lexan at my work.

I disagree.. I had a 55 gal tank, with the lights hardly on ever. I guess within time and heat emmitting from the water, the back part of the plexi became warped.

will an extra peice of plastic help ease my mind and hopefully not warp my plexi tank?

Most tank lids are made of plastic that is thinner and more apt to melt than plexy. I whouldn't worry.
