Take tank size into consideration. A lower temp will generally reduce aggression. Keep it between 78-82 degrees F. I keep mine at 80, works fine for me. So what size tank are you using?

congratulations on the purchase.
i have a 60 gallon tank.. and i have a tronic 200 watt heater.. is that enough though? cause how can that skinny heater heat the entire tank.. cause my heater is on the right side.. won't the left side be a little cooler than the right?
Yes,

Your heater is more than adequate for that size tank. The water will circulate w/ good filtration and the temp. will be dispersed evenly
is a Marineland Penguin 330 adequate filtration for my tank then?
Yup,

should be fine, and Penguin is one of the better filters
kewl.. thanks alot amazon..
piranhas are cold blooded, so temp effects their activity level as well, so if they fight too much a slightly lower temp is best, but if not keep it higher and they should be more active and grow faster

so my elongatus tank is at 82 since he is in there by himself

my cariba tank is about 80

75-84 is safe
80-82
between 76-84 is safe, but I have mine at 79-79.

the higher the temp = the more active & aggressive in most cases
I keep my p tanks at a constant 80 degrees...they seem to be very happy at that temp.
Aim for 80. A little above or below is okay.
nice nice.. thanks alot for the help everyone..
80-84
77 -79. i dont want them to kill themselves. i had it at 80 one time and they wer gooing at it constantly
90-112 degrees

I keep mine at 110 and oh boy are they aggressive.

Don't keep it this warm or you will have piranha soup.
