Im getting a 75g this Sunday and want to make it a piranha tank. What do you 75g-80g owners have in your tanks. I plan on running either to aqua clear 500's or emporor 400's. Been in the fish hobby for many years and this is my first piranha tank. Currently have a 58g reef tank and no freshwater tanks. Also I am going to paint the back of the tank black, what kind of paint do I use.

Ive heard that multiple coats of spray paint will work pretty well. I think other P keepers have used rustoleum and not had any problems. I don't have a 75g, but most people have a mix of 3-4 pygos, or a serra species in their 75.

with a 75 you could have three big-ass pygos (reds, caribe, terns, piraya) for life. i' mean, i'd put seven or eight inchers to start dog! or you could buy younger smaller ones and watch them grow like wildfire. if going the solo p route is something you'd like to do, a big irritans or spilo or medium size elong is always a great way to go. DON'T RULE OUT A MANUELLI! my stance is three pygos of any size for life or serious irritan, manny, or spilo alone. of course you could shoal spilos time three too. lotsa choices. by the way, your mother's in my 75!

I have an 80g long (52x20x20") tank that currently houses 5 7,5-9" Reds, 7 L-Number Pleco's, two Raphael Cats and a couple of Ghost Shrimps. A lot of fish, but I use a lot of filtration: an Eheim Pro 2228, 300gph worth of internal filters, and a 325gph powerhead.
Last casualty - due to starvation - occurred more than 12 months ago.

It's a perfectly stable tank environment with 100% healthy inhabitants, but I realise this won't last forever. So I'm currently contemplating my next move (larger tank, downsizing the number of catfish and/or piranha's), but for now, everything's running smoothly...

Being that you are new to piranha keeping I would suggest starting with a shoal of piranhas..reds, terns or piraya's.. Having a shoal will at least give you more to experience then a solitary fish.. You could buy a bunch of small pygos or 3 or 4 and let them grow.. A solo piranha would be nice but their is a possiblity that they might not live up to expectations.. Good luck..!
