Well, I ran out of Nitrite/Nitrate tests and have no money to buy a new one. I do still have ammonia test kits, but I'm noticing that my 30g tank holding my Ps and my oscar is getting cloudy. 3 weeks ago ammonia was intense, 6-7ppm and the water was really cloudy. I did a 50% change at that point and the ammonia didn't seem to dissapate immediatly. I waited a day and tested it, down to 4 ppm, then 2 days later it was at 0. I don't have a nitr*te test kit anymore, no money and the LFS is out but my water is getting really cloudy again. I do a 50% change and it's clear for a day and then cloudy within 24 hours. I'm wondering if it's cycling out my nitrites or if there's something else going on in there. I've also been noticing a very stubborn deposit on the inside of my glass. It won't come off no matter how hard I scrub it and it didn't start appearing until the cloudy water started. Any input???

I dont know about the deposit but my tank got cloudy when it was cycling and people here said it was the bacteria eating up all the nitrites, shortly before my nitrites dropped off, the tank got a little cloudy....did you ever give your tank a chance to completely cycle? Can you take your water into the LFS to get tested?

sounds like your tank didn't get to completely cycle and is now attempting to complete the cycling process. water changes will only prolong the cycling process. go and get your water perameters tested at the lfs and let us know what it says.

As soon as I can I will. Problem being: Car's about to fall apart, I'm broke, the closest petshop is 28 miles away and HE doesn't even have any nitr*te tests. I called him up and he says that all of his tanks are cycled, so why would he carry any tests for himself. He says he'll order some, but I'll have to wait for a while, because next week's paycheck is going for rent and 10 gold spilos. Fish have been moved to a totally cycled 30 gallon and I cleaned out the filter (noticed it was overflowing out the intake tube). I'll toss 5 or 6 feeder goldfish in there and let it keep doing it's thing. Still not sure what's up with the deposits, but thanks for the feedback!

Netmancer,
Every time you change the water, clean the gravel or clean the filter you are just prolonging the cycling process. Let it do its thing, it will clear up in a week or so especially since you are already 1/2 way home. Make sure you keep a bio-load in there, if the current fish die, leave the dead fish, they will help continue the cycle.
