which one is more rare?? how easy is it to find them?? can they shoal?? how aggressive?/
Both are somewhat rare, with S. elongatus not only the rarest, but also in certain localities forbidden to export w/o certain documents. You can visit OPEFE for more specialized information.

S. medinai is very rare. The ones being sold as S. medinai are spilo cf.
According to Ron, S. medinai is not actually imported because it is in a region difficult to reach. I believe (and he should correct me if I am wrong), he is attempting to import some for the pet industry if he has not already done so. In terms of rarity, both are about equal. If you are looking for rare fish in terms of locality, then S. eigenmanni is one and so is never seen S. neveriensis which is limited to one enclosed river.

If u were looking for a aggressive fish...I think you should go w/ the elongatus....if u want a shoal....medinei would be your choice...I've seen the medinei together in the same tank....and I have mine w/ reds and caribe...hez a smaller than the reds and much smaller than the caribe...but still hold his ground against the reds...but not the caribe...cause they are too big for him...

I was only speaking about the rarity in the hobby, I should have clarified that in my post.

Understand, but S. medinai has not been imported so using "rarity" in the hobby is a bit of a stretch until we know for a fact it is in the hobby stream. So far (and I have seen many new imports), this one is not among them---YET.
