What do u put in ur sump?

I've had my wet/dry running for about 6 months and there is some sand like bacteria forming and getting more abundant every week. My lfs told me to put some sort of media, i was wondering if anyone has done this. Right now there's only my pump and heater. If so, what kind of media did you put inside the sump to have the bacteria to cling on to?

i put charcoal here and there..and your bio-ball have enough bactaria you don't have to worry about that..and that sand on the bottom of your tank is normal.. just waste from your fish..you can always try to gravel vac..thats what i do..but not always..
Yeah I would assume your wet dry has bio balls. If you tank is properly cycled, the bacteria are on there (hence the term bio-balls
). What exactly is the stuff in the sump? If its large chunks of waste, maybe your mechanical filtration is insufficient. Do you have a homemade wet dry or a commercially bought one?

xenon, i have a store bought wet/dry, the stuff is like fine gray matter. it just sinks to the bottom, if i stir it up it'll make my tank cloudy, then clears up again. should i just vaccum it out? and yes the tank is cycled for about 3 months now. and i rinse all sponges out from my filter.

its just waste and it will continue to pile on ..like when you clean your gravel..all the crud that comes up..well it also goes down to the sump..you can either leave it alone or gravel vac..choice is your...i do it once in awhile when i feel like it..
how do u get that stuff out? siphon it out? my sump isn't that big. can i stir it up and let it filter through again?

heaters, autowater changer and peat moss and thats it

I sell kits so people dont have to worry about going through the mess and not getting the right stuff or not putting it together right
