I'm setting up a 55g for my new Rhom and i want to do my best in simulating its natural habitat. What are the best type of live plants for this set up?

Piranha's don't like bright light (and rhoms in particular, so it seems), so you need plants that can survive under low light conditions. Most suiatble plants in a tank with very little light are java fern, java moss, and anubias. You could also try other plants like swords, vallisneria or crypto's, but they might as well die quickly...

 It is hard to keep amazons in nice shape.
Very true.. even those arent safe from getting eatten by Ps. If this would be too much of a hassle for you to keep well maintained, you can also invest in plastic plants which will also do as well.

You can always do what i do..... I use VERY high amount of light and block it all out with the plants....

either a forest of cabomba

or I think it was "water Lettuce"

or Duckweed (no joke works great and fish love it)

or a whole bunch of water sprite floating on top looks awesome, Im trying this now
