wehn using a wet dry filter is there anything that needs to be replaced. like parts that get old and need to buy new ones?

IF you use a sponge for a prefilter it will need bi-weekly cleanings to insure high flow rates, other than that none

cheap pumps should last at least 3 years, Iwakis usually last over 12yrs
