Weird Observation

as some of you guys might know....I have a large rhombeus that I keep in my 90g tank. well I removed all the gravel from the tank because I didnt really like it and I am planning on puting black sand in it to darken up my rhom's color.

but as of right now the tank is bare....anyways, mostly every night I feed him a large piece of smelt or catfish (which he seems to enjoy). obviously the meat gets processed by his body and he shits it out. with the tank being bare I can easily any debris on the tank's bottom. which is how I noticed all the small pieces of red/black gravel that he must have sh*t out. he was in the tank with gravel for atleast a couple weeks (I think) so he had a chance to accidenetly or purposely (lol..I dont know) eat some gravel.

I know he is shitting it out because I know for a fact that there is absolutely no gravel (large or small) in the tank. plus, I have cleaned out very small pieces of gravel on several occasssions. so it must be getting passed through his body as he ingests more food and shits it out.

just wondering if anyone else has ever noticed this or knows anything about it. I'm not really worried about him or anything...I just think that it's kinda odd so I am sharing it with the board

any comments or similar stories are welcome

LOL.. the gravel was probably ingested accidently while he was eating or he thinks the red/black gravel is candy

My spilo used to bite into the gravel to grab his food and your rhom could be doing the same and accidently injesting gravel.
My p. natts. do that. But they spit everything out and go for the food while the gravel falls back to the bottom of the tank.
Interesting. I havenet ever seen my Ps do this but other species of fish will do this on occassion.

yea....that is more along the lines of what I was thinking. I'm sure it was accidental, but still kind of funny. atleast it passed through is digestive system okay

Maybe they're "kidney stones"....

The main thing now is that your P is OK...

if you change to sand and it does the same then it could possible harm your rhom, just a thought
