My tank is in my bedroom...

can i turn the powerheads of at night and just keep the heater and sponge filter thing i have..
The sponge filter consits of 4 sponges...1 white...i black and two bigger ones....they contain bacteria ..you know the ones?...made by jewl

can i just leave this and a heater on all nite?

the filter came from a 30g tank and is now in the 60g to help the floor filter connected to powerhead( that i want to turn off???????????????????????)

PLEASE HELP SO I CAN SLEEEEPP...IF NOT ITS ON THE SOFA FOR ME

Is the tank cycled or not!? What sort of load, amount of P's and size in there? If any??

the tank is cycled

load?...there are 5 p's in a 60 g tank

2 inches long each

sponge filter is the filters that i had before and it served fine on there own...the tank is double the size now with extra underground filter

the powerheads are 2 pumps that spit water out from tubes in the filter...these are the things i want to turn off..

i just want to leave the old filter from the 30g tank and heater on..

the only problwm i can see is the water wont circlate as much as it did in the old tank....

will this harm them at night?

And what make of filter with the sponges?

As long as the surface of the water is moving at all times you are maximising gas exchange. Increasing the dissolved oxygen in your water. Is the surface moving?? The powerheads are connected to plate under the gravel right?? This pulls water through the gravel, where in a cycled tank the bacteria will live (in the gravel). The bacteria turn ammonia and nitrite into less toxic nitrate. then spit the 'clean' water back out. This is form of filtration, although an old fashion one, I still have these in my oldest tank from 10 years+ ago. It is certainly not an ideal filtration method for messy P's more suited to a small community fish tank.

I am unsure if just the sponges is enough for 5 p's, which is hell of a lot for a 60g. And if its that same 48*12*15 tank thats not 60 gallon.

the filter is a jewl

that is what is going to be on all nite...jus that and no powerhead

the suface is moving slightly but not as much as the filter used to make the water move in the tank half as small

It is a bit difficult to make a decision when I don't know the gph of the other filter. As far as surviving the night the fish SHOULD be ok. They survive for long distances in small boxes without filtration. They are a hardy fish. If you are sure its cycled I wouldn't have though they would be that at risk.

Are they that noisy. I am sat in my fish room with my computer. I have my old 48*12*15 community tank with similar filtration. Its ancient with 2 Aquaclear 402's powering undergravel and then a Fluval plus 2 internal powerfilter. And I can't hear it! Is it vibration causing the noise. Not sucked on properely with suckers.

i,ll turn it off the small filter is slighty circuliating it.

i think tyhe set up is old..
i will look into a neww filter etc tommorow

It will be fine. The only issue Mellor44 touched on is the lack of sufficient bio-filtration from the sponge to completely convert the ammonia/nitrite to nitrates. You will most likely have some ammonia and nitrites left in the water over night, but not enough to cause any harm. I cant see 8 hours being an issue at all, as long as you start up the filters in the morning. If this is what you will be doing every night you might as well get a power filter or a canister filter for your tank, run it for a while with the UGF to seed some bacteria, and then just rip that UGF out and be done with it.
