I'd believe that a standard calcium free sand-base, covered with 1 to 3 mm grainsize gravel, and preferably mixed with a small amount of red clay.

lehm consists of Quarzsand and Ton and schluff(fine sand) and some lime,
Lehm is ductile when its wet and will be like stone when ist dry
ton should burn in an oven to get hard like stone
Ton minerals are made of water- und hydroxid Alumosilikate with a little of Magnesia Iron, Natrium, Kalium und Calcium. size < 2µm vor.
Lehm is not as easy ductile as ton and not so much leak to water?
when you add some water to lehm it wil increase his volume
