I was thinking about changing from gravel to sand in my tank but I am a little concerned with the release of toxic bubbles from the sand. I hear that toxic patches can form in the sand and get released and then the p's would die. Am I just overworrying?

Id say do the sand and Clean it the Twitcho Style.
I wouldnt Worry about no Toxic Patches or that Crap.
Just try and mix the sand up everyone in a while so it doesnT get stale and
form like tight Locking. Keep it Loose, Expecially if you plan on doing plants

If you can get a pleco to co exsist with your P's they are known for burrowing and stiring up the sand, which would help to cut down on the risk of the gases even more.
