Thinking about Getting a Gold Diamond Rhom,

150 Views 2 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  AquaAlex1993
I'm currently eyeing a 4'' gold diamond rhom. I have an empty 75 gallon aquarium which is perfect for him. What should I know about keeping rhoms? The only piranhas I've kept are red belly and caribe.
My plans are:
  • fill the tank with artifical plants and some live plants
  • have some schools of tetras (black skirts, maybe exodons)
  • black background
  • maybe a pleco and a rapheal catfish
what do you guys think?
I know the tetras could and MOST LIKELY will become lunch but I think it'd help the rhom feel secure because my experience with dither fish is that it draws out shy fish.

Any other fish you keep in the tank will eventually become un-alive. Smaller, faster fish with high reproductive rates and lots of hiding places are your best bet for other fish. Having a smaller breeding tank of cichlids or something similar, and constantly adding fry to my rhoms tank was the only moderate success I had.

I'm aware that anything put into the tank will eventually or could eventually become lunch.
The tank that I'm transforming into a rhom tank actually has 6 banjos catfish that are hidden into the sand which would be super difficult to catch. Do you think the rhom would never notice them? they only come out to eat the left over shrimp my black pacu drop.
I'm thinking a good dither would be mollies or maybe convicts.
