I'm almost positive I got the virus downloading a screensaver - damnit, because my Shield Pro system has been flawless since I got it. It asks if you want to download, and I go ahead anyway. That Avast is free, but the question is whether it will remove starware or not. There's instructions for removing it on the internet using stopzilla, but I don't know if those instructions are authentic. You could also try Avast...
It's free and it works well...
Thank you very much, FTMFT.Ad-Aware and spybot will not work to rid your computer of Starware. Starware can be difficult to remove because it silently runs itself in the background of your computer process and automatically runs every time you start your browser! You will want to remove the following files-
Remove Starware processes:
Remove Starware registry values:
Unregister Starware DLL files:
Detect and Delete these Starware files:
This can be done manually, if you are very computer literate. However, I would find a program on the web that will rid your computer of Starware such as XoftSpy. Do a google search for a download. There are other programs that will safely remove Starware. Again, just do a google search and pick one. Once you have ran a removal program, look back into your files and make sure the ones listed above have ALL been deleted/removed! Hope this helps, if you need more help-- message me.
