Sore on side

404 Views 9 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  Kemper1989
I've had my fish for about a year now and he has had heater burn before on his side but nothing like this. This sore or whatever it is appears to be eating into his side and spreading slowly. I change his water every two weeks at the latest and he doesnt eat feeders very ooften. Any help as to what I can do before it gets any worse I would greatly appreciate it. By the way hes a gold spilo 6 inches and in a 30 gallon by himself.

Thanks, MG

Treat him with MelaFix and salt. Turn the heat up to 85F.

This might be a stupid question but can I use table salt?

from what i heard, as long has the salt doesnt have iodine, it should be fine. 1tbp per 5g
Take the fish out and swab the wound with a disinfectant (iodine, betadine, mercurochrome). Make sure the solution does not get into the eyes or gills and return it to clean water. This should help disinfect the open sore and heal on its own provided the water wasn't the initial cause of it. Keep an eye on it to see if it improves or the wound still continues to spread.

Watch your fingers while you're at it.
