All of the media should be either submerged or at least flushed constantly by the water stream.
But those ceramic rings are not actually very effective. The surface for bacterial growth is not huge.
I would use sintered glass balls or lava rock.
i just switched all my filters over to those, i got 1 filter left to do, been running them for about 2 months. check my water regularely, they are 100% fine, way easier to clean. and way WAY cheaper.
beg to differ harry, those rings are in all of my tanks and my bacteria is right
in line.......that is the way my AC110's are too humper, its like a wet / dry, the
rings will grow bacteria just like a wet / dry.
are you using the carbon inserts that came with the AC? if so, take it out because
you really dont need it and add pot scrubbers, body scrubbers etc along with the
rings and you will be ok, your ok now, but if you want to add more bacteria, then do
as mentioned.
Yeah I had already set one up with the carbon so I figured just to use it til I need to replace it...the other one and the xp3 have the pot scrubbers in them. Thanks for the help
