im setting up a 75 gal tank and it was suggested to me that i add freshwater aquarium salt to the water, which is supposed to help build up slime on the fish to better protect them. Is this common practice, and if so how much should i use? I was told 1 tsp per gallon, sounds a like a bit much. Any input would be appreciated. thanks

I've only ever used salt when my fish were sick. If your starting a tank, get it all set up and toss in some goldfish or koi or some stupid fish that you dont like. THose fish will cycle your tank, and when it comes time to add your piranha's there will be no problems. Plus they will have their first meal waiting
