So as far as growth rate and max size are S. Mac's (ruby spilo) the same as S.Spilo's (Gold Spilo)? Or is there a difference?

Perhaps I should mention, the name S. maculatus originated from my web site for S. spilopleura CF's that Michel Jegu reinstated the Kner 1858 name on. It is a spilopleura, but it has not been determined to be an actual distinctive species. Just the name is being used to differentiate it from others in the complex form. So care would be the same.
