two of my p's have started to rub on a piece of slate that i have in my tank is this normal or is there something i should do just incase something is wrong?

it's cool. everyone's pygos do it. fish can itch and scratch just like people and other animals. my reds and caribe love to do it. don't worry about it unless they're obviously struggling to scrape off a heinous bacterial skin infection.

If you don't have (or don't want to give) an answer, there's no reason to post - so don't


Piranha's scratch when them have an ick, just like humans. As they don't have hands, they need to rub themselves on objects.
If your fish only do it from time to time, there's nothing to worry about - normal behaviour. If they do it often, and there seems to be an irritation of some kind (visible or not), there might be something wrong, and treatment could be in necessary.

i was watching my pygos in my 75g and they like to rub on the sand a little bit. i believe what "dutchfrompredator" said is right, they do like to scratch every once in a while, but it you notice that they are doing it religiously then you may need to look at them closer for parasites or the "ick".

is there any ways i can spot a lice or parasite.....they seem to look fine....the only thing that i see is some silver sparkles on them and i'm assuming that is normal.....i'm gonna add some salt tonight
