i have been working alot and came home after not feeding them for a two days. came home and half of my fav caribe was gone. was not even breathing so that was a good thing i guess. it just makes me sick. he was the best one in the tank he would come to the top of the tank when i would turn the light on waiting for food. i am going to have to get some more so the two wont go after each other.

i am anal about feeding them. they get fed every other day at 5:00. i do not think that me missing a day resulted in this death though. the more that i think about it i believe that the aggression was building in that tank for some reason. three days ago i had some fin biting goin on. i really dont think that there was anything that i could do

I'd leave the two for a while, see if they get along. I don't think there's any evidence or sense in the two pygo rule so there's no reason to think you have any less chance of it working than with three (which obviously did not work). Best of luck dude, I know what it's like to lose your favorite pygo in a tank, mine went three weeks ago and the other fish are still too scared to go in his former half of the tank

Well, there is sense in the claim that two pygo's have a go at each other (the hierarchical nature of Pygo's), but it's not carved in stone. There are plenty of examples of two Pygo's getting along just fine.

I'm sorry about your loss, mate

I've been there too: my favorite Red died mysteriously last summer: sometimes piranha keeping really stinks...

Fish keeping in general man, they never seem to die in sensible ways like other pets, it's always so random and something stupid like jumping out of the tank, getting eaten by tankmates they'd previously got along with, dying of some mystery disease that had no symptoms and no warning, power going out and killing your nitrifying bacteria... Ugh, I wish just once my fish could die in an understandable way like cats or dogs, if my green terror got hit by a car, I could deal with that

Yeah... In the evening Ed the red was doing just fine, the next day he was face-down in the gravel

The others seemed just fine - a bit stressed out perhaps, but nothing serious.
It bugged me for weeks what could have killed the guy - eventually I settled for nothing

Oh well, a wise man once said: "You win some, you loose some, it's all the same to me" - I don't agree with the "all the same" part, but fish keeping really is a matter of sometimes winning, sometimes loosing.
