I have 3 red bellies in a 55 with a fair number of amazon swords. Every once in a while the fish will turn sideways, almost upside down and quickly brush against a plant leaf. I was wondering, is this something they do to display territory or are they trying to scratch (parasite or something)? If anyone has seen this before I would appreciate some input, Thanks a bunch. By the way, Im new to the board and the hobby...this is a great resource!

Hello and welcome to the board! This has been answered in a previous thread that you can also view.
Your piranhas will do thi occasionaly and there is nothing to worry about, but however if they seem to be doing this consitantly then there may be a problem as you suggested

Its common for Ps to do this. Just make sure that you look closely to your fishes fins and that they dont start developing white spots on their bodies or fins.
