I put my reds in a bigger tank that has tons of plants and hiding places,so the light on them is not so bright like the tank they were in.They are getting darker...is this because they are matching to their environment.They still act the same,but look really awesome.

When they get darker, it's usually a sign of them being stressed or in the mood to mate.

If you get little frrrrryyy.

well when I added black gravel they darkened up over night to near jet black, I think it is a form of camoflauging, to help them blend in

I had no background and riverbottom looking gravel, well last night i put a black backround and made my lights blue. overnight my reds darkened and I have to say with the blue light they look pretty sweet.

Hmm.. I cant agree or disagree. Mostly all my RBs are darking in color. Doesnt look stressed and most def not all breeding pairs.

DBROWN, you had success with blue light? They didn't flip out? Mine reacted very strongly to having blue lighting in their tank. They freaked out so bad and wouldn't settle down.

yes rose city, I added well, ok i spray painted the bulb blue and it looks sweet. my p's didn't freak at all. it makes their sparkly scales turn bluish

it's cool lookin. also rose city what kind of p's do you have other than reds, if so where did you get them. I live in portland too and want other types such as caribe's.

reds tend go go darker once matured they loose thier spots and get the glittery scales and body colour does change .
if this has happended over night then its possible due to the light being darker they may look darker and as nate said changing decor can make the p's colour change or look more vibrant
