6-7 would give them ample space. You could overstock the tank though and do maybe 10, but that would be harder to manage. I'd stick with the rule of thumb of 20gal/fish and don't stray to far from it if you're just starting out with P's.
You could probably put about 10 in there if they are small, and you want to give some away later. If you only want as many as you'll keep in there for life, I'd agree with acidwarp and get 6 or 7.
i agree with those guys. it's tempting to buy and house as many p's as possible (you're talking to a guy that has that problem), especially in a tank that size but ime, but you'll probably do better with like eight huge monsters that are happy for life. there's always the super overstocking crowd who have amazing p's in great numbers, but those dudes have resources and experience that i don't have to manage water parameters and feeding and what not. you can't go wrong with seven or eight, and you can always add if you decide to go that route.
