i have 1'' of sand in my 125g tank and plan on putting 3'' of plant substrate down. now should i take the sand out of the tank and then put the plant substrate down and put the sand ontop. or should i just put the plant substrate ontop of the layor of sand then buy some sand to put ontop. i want sand on top either way. how hard do u think it iwll be to pick the sand up?

By plant substrate do you mean Flourite or which type of substrate?

This has nothing to do with the functionality of it, but it would look really cool IMO if you had the sand, then the substrate, then sand again. It would give the tank a nice 3D look.
