P's breathing fast

I just did a water change 25% and I added some salt. I added 1 tablespoon for every 5g. After I added it, 1hr later I noticed that they are breathing fast. I'm kinda worried I spent too much money on these fish. What should I do? I was thinking of doing another water change.

I'd say test for ammonia and nitrite. I've never used salt in any tank, but others do and it appears to work for them. I believe that salt can make nitrite less toxic ? Test water then possibly another water change ?

Have you recently added more fish (rapid rise in ammonia), thus rapid respiration.

they could just be stressed from the water change. i'd test the water if it's fine than do nothing.

i agree also my reds do this when i do a major water change/ gravel vac they stay in the same place breathing hard then come out of it a 1-2 hours later

I agree with the others that it was the water change. Have they shown those signs before when you have done water changes?

I do 25% a week and 5gallons daily and they never were breathing fast. They seemed fine but when I added some salt it some how makes them breath alot. My water parameters are fine. Do you think that they are getting use to the salt? There are only a few that are still breathing fast.

I'd add more airation to the tank salt will riduce your water of it's capibilities of holding air.

Again proabably just stress from the water change. Mine do it all the time. It takes a couple of hours for them to snap out of it.
If you have your tank lights on shut them off for a while.

It could be them getting use to the salt. I add salt at every water change. Not sure if it helps but my Ps have been pretty healthy so far.

i add i table spoon for every five gallons water "every" water change and i have no problems i heard plecos aren't crazy for the salt thow but you can't impress every fish all the time

They are doin alot better. I think they were just getting adjusted to the water.
