i need some average level lighting plants for a 29 gallon african cichlid tank

these bad boys eat plants. are there any plants that they just wont eat and arent toxic?

Chichlids from Malawi or Tanganyika?

Malawians will eat just about everything with the exception of Java Fern and Anubias.

Tanganyikians should work with almost anything robust, with the exception of fish from the genus Tropheus.

yea they are malawi and the plantrs i have are silk lol. i hate plastic.

Anubias originally comes from Africa, and is often used in tanks with an African theme - it is strong and doesn't need a lot of light to survive.
Vallisneria would also be a good choice, as I've seen it prosper in numberous Afr. cichlid tanks.
And Java Fern probbaly does fine as well - hardy and does well under low light conditions.

All the afformentioned plants may work but it depends strictly on your fish.On all my friends that have african cichlids here in greece (and they are many....) the plants are "temporarely" in their tanks.......

I suggest to give it a try!

a crazy "illegal mix". 3 parrots. 6 assorted zebras (albino blue red) yellow lab, an unidentifed albino african and a fish that looks like a gold johanni
