how do you tell if a piranha is a piraya? thanks.
I think my LFS has three of these I need to know will take pics.

Photos would help, but generally and dependent on size, P. piraya would have yellow flame-like markings past the lateral line and if larger than 9 inches, a rayed adipose fin would likely be present.

I highly doubt any lfs has Piraya due to its cost and rarity, many people who havent seen piraya in person before confuse Natts as piraya on occasion, at small sizes the flames are still present and the eye will have no red, and Piraya generally have a lighter color grey scales as well

lfs by me just sold 2 last week for $120 ea. They don't usually have them though, just luck I guess.

Dude check out the Piranha factsheets and you will see the difference between a piraya and other pygos. It is quite evident. The things that stick out to me are the VERY pronounced lower jaw on some and the flame like colorations extending from the bottom of the fish.

Im from se michigan and its jans tropical fish, but there rhoms not piraya.
