i have a 2" pacu in a ten gallon with a 1/2" baby red belly......... i have the baby in there until my 20 is done cycling........ does my pacu pose a threat to my red belly??? i have some gold fish in there with them. should i move the pacu????

Pacu's are not as dangerous as piranhas but size alone could be the downfall. If its mouth is big enough to eat the baby piranha then I would say it is a serious risk if the pacu decides to attack. I would recommend something larger than a 20 gallon for your baby if you plan on keeping it in there longer than a few months as it will outgrow that tank very quickly.

it will just be in there until it gets big enough to join my shoal........ so i should move it?? thanks

yeah they should be fine..you migh notice a few fin nips..but they should get along..

depends on the pacu. i've seen bastard pacus before. i have also seen docile pacus. it all depends on you fish. hope that helps.

thanks guys, im not goin to risk it....... i put my pacu with my shoal........ id rather see my baby p live.........

every pacu i ever had tho was a pansyassed, skitty fish. They'd even back off from feeder goldfish a quarter their size.

they DO seem to have some very impressive teeth tho-- i could throw a large pre-killed goldfish in their tank, and if they were really hungry they would rip it up just as bad as any piranhas would.
