Glass hoods. 3 strip lights. 2 200 watt heaters. Either 2 canister filters. Or one canister and one trickle filter and surface skimmer. About 75 pounds of gravel. Backing. powerhead or air pump. And use some biospira or biozyme. To get your tank cycled fast.
I'm going w/ a wet dry filter and an AC300 from old tank. 2 300watt heaters, glass tops, 2 strip lights,120lbs of black gravel, air pump, 802 powerhead and maybe a 901 to. Fake plants and fake driftwood, and a black background.
AC 802 Powerhead w/ prefilter on one side pointed towards the other, AC 500 on the opposite side to help out the dead spot, FilStar XP3 or Eheim 2229 for filteration help, two 250 watt heaters, and two thermometers on each side to check temperature balance.
Basically, what you need is the same as when you're setting up a 125g comunity tank, only with a lot more filtration (ideally at least 10x tank content as turnover per hour), a powerhead, and less light.
i have a rena xp3 filstar and a powerhead 901 two three hundred watt heaters air stones, bogwood, driftwood, live pants fake plants and one hundred lbs of gravel two thermometers
i have a 120gal and i use only 1 350 watt heater with temp control and only 50 pounds of gravel but a 125 is longer so probly more gravel but the temp balance is fine with that heater
for my filter i use a aqua clear 500
i also have a 901 powerhead but dont use it all the time
for the most part i agree with Judazzz
