The levels in my piranha tank are too high, I'm doing a water change tonight.

But you know how messy piranhas are, so nitrate levels are a big problem. I have a few plants in there and want to feed them but all aquatic fertilizers have nitrogen in them; or do they? Can I use aquatic plant food or not? Or is there a nitrogen-less food out there?

yes. you can get dry pure form ferts from www.gregwatson.com. get everything but nitrogen. and you can set your levels of ferts individually as your needs require.

So if nitrate (NO3) level is the problem, you have two ways to solve it, together or even separately.
Denitrification works in sewage treatment plants only, not in aquarium scale.

1) Water changes; and or
2) Big amount of fast growing plants under high lighting and CO2-system.
