I've had redbellies since i was in highschool (roughly 12 years now)
and about 8 months ago took 2 redbellies i had from dime size (grew them in a 75 gallon) and put them in a 125 gallon and added 2 piraya & 2 caribe and had a nice happy family.
The reds where quite a bit bigger than the 4 new fish, but they werent aggressive towards them. Well in the past 3 months 1 caribe has had an insane growth spurt and is now the largest and most aggressive fish in the tank. I normally feed them roughly 100 feeders per week and recently had to move & leave my tank at my old house for the past 2 months (only 15 miles away) but would check on them weekly when i fed them.
Well my buddy called one day (roughly a week since their last feeding) and told me my bigger piraya got its ass kicked and was on the brink of death. Of course i was upset so i went over only to find a dead piraya
At anyrate, i got the remaining 5 moved over on sunday and they are all doing well - now i'll go back to 50 feeders or so twice a week and can keep a better eye on them. Also waiting to find out if i can get another piraya of equal size in the next few days since the tank is still newly set up.
Btw - i was referred to this site by another piranha friend.
Here are some pics of my current set up w/ the 5 guys left and then unfortunate pics of the dead piraya:
these were taken about 4-5 days after death
oh and it should be noted - they had never attacked eachother in the past
