well if it's a fish only tank you can use standard flo tubes they will be good enouth because you dont have any coral or rock that needs stron lighting for a supply as for a sump no you dont really need 1 for a fish only tank you can use an external filter or a good internal filter they will do fine but the ro/di unit try ebay
new in reef tank
Hi guys im new in setting up a reef tank what kind of lighting should i use for this set-up. And do i really need to have a sump/refugium, coz I am running a Fish Only tank w/o one and its doing good so far but a friend told that I need to build one?Where can I buy a cheap R/O unit bcoz my other R/O unit brokedown this morning. Hope you can help me.

a wet/dry system is really good for FOWLR and search for AquaSafe RO at ebay, its pretty cheap.
one of the best reasons for the sump/refuge is the addition of macro algae it will suck up nitrates also having an overflow avoids the unsitely oily film on the top of the water
Thanks guys. But I think ill just build a sump bcoz my friend is insisting that i should have one. ANother question what are the different kind of live rock and which one is the best to put in my tank?
I use the Fiji LR as it is the best price for what you get. My LFS claims that Fiji is now illegal and they carry Pohmpei LR. That stuff is junk. I got 5 lb piece to see how it turned out and it is drab in color and had barely anything on it.blood_hound said:Thanks guys.
