Like when it gets shot up in the air, it has to come back down doesnt it? Are people at risk of getting hit by this anti aircraft fire that are on the ground? I just keep thinking there is a large amoutn of metal going up into the air and it has to come down. And since they are shooting it about the city arent the civilians at risk???

AAA, or anti aircraft artillery reaches a certain height and blows up. It isn't a shell that's returned to the ground; it's fragmentation. It's not as dangerous as you're thinking, but I still wouldn't want to be under any when it was falling back to earth.

with normal ammunition I dont know for sure but I dont think it comes back down nearly as fast, terminal velocity ( the max speed of free-fall for an object) it happens when the drag force and gravity become equall and it no longer accellerates, thats why cats can survive a 7 story fall better than a 3 story fall, the drag force actually slows things down once Terminal veloctiy is reached, though I would imagine ammunition would still be lethal

Anti-Aircraft Artillery is like underwater depth charges....its a giant missle like shell, that explodes at certain heights in the air....when it explodes it throws metal shards and debris every which way......majority of the time, the hot burning debris and shards do not make it to the ground because it gets blown away by the wind

Well, I just heard some CNN dude talking about the possibility of civilian casualties in Bagdad after the latest bombings: he also started about potential deaths caused by AAA-fire....

Is he talking shiz or not? (btw: this is a serious question)

yeah ok, that makes more sense if it is burning up. Basically it disenegrates before it hits the ground?

Can you tell me like the heights it is when it blows up? We talking miles??

Also how do people shoot AAA. Is it like an umbrella above the city so nothing can get it or are there just certain walls put up to the Wes/East/South/North

i'll get back to you on the tougher questions......but it pretty much almost disenegrates before it hits the ground....it'll feel like its raining little pieces of metal

As a former intel analyst for the USMC, you can rest assured that I had to study a TON of weapon systems. And because I was in a cobra and huey squadron, I had to know all about SAMs and AAA.
