Joe aka Fruitbat has a good bit of experience, but I doubt it's 50 years.

I agree that a 30 gallon is minimum for a Senegal. With a lot of filtration and being the only fish in the tank it could work.

Can't a Pinktail Chalceus live in a tank smaller than 55 gallons?

I think bettas should be listed as breeders for a small tank. If read they are pretty easy to breed too. Not as easy as convicts, but then again nothins that easy.

I recommend the Lake Tanga Shell Dwellers for a small tank, the behaviour is fascinating, and they must have the best bite to size ratio of all cichlids (1.5" Brevis can draw blood if you go near it's shell full of wrigglers!)

I haven't seen any bottom dwellers in that list, bottom dwellers such as:

- Loricarids (Suckermouth Catfish) of any subfamily, that grow no bigger than 8-10" (given you consider anything up to 55g small);
- Doradids (Raphael/Thorny Catfish) that grow to 8-10" at most;
- Corydoras and Brochis spp.;
- Loaches that grow to 6-8" at most;
