I never turn on the light in my hood. My p's hate it. Is that bad for the tank leaving it off all the time.?

How old are your piranhas? How long have you had them? Do you have any live plants?? If so, this might not be helpful for your plants.

In my situation, I just keep the light on for about 8-10 hrs. At first they did not like it, but later got use to it. Right now they seem not to mind, however they just stay still as the swim in the power head. Ater I turn the lights out they are super active!!

Just make sure the lights are not overly bright. You can solve this by candy cane the lightbulb with foil. or even spray painting one side on the lightbulb. I believe there is something pinned about this in the tank and accessories forum.

All my lights are off on my P tanks. I use natural lighting. Ps live in murky waters without much light anyway.

what i did with my lights so my p';s get used to them is .i used to put paper under my lights ,like i used alot of paper at first like in this exsample,,i used 10 sheets of paper for one light that made the tank dark as hell ,,then once a week just before i put the light on i would take out one sheet of paper i did this for a month and when i was done the p's didnt even notice the brightness of the lights they got used to it over time and now i use no paper and the p's are fine :nod: "understand what i meen" well i hope this help i thought it was a good idea at the time ,,,

i have 110 watts of power compact on my tank and i dont even have any live plants in there... the p's actually seem to like it with light rather than without it.. the light seems to make them more active and colorful... try putting the lights on a timer for a week to see if they adjust.. they might start to like it

In my 75 , I went with a 3 phase lighting setup. In the area of the aquarium where I have plants, I used a dark red bandana under my light. In the middle I used a yellow bandana, and torwards the far end I used nothing to dim the light. They seem to like it ok.
