I want to dim the lights in the tank in which I plan to put some Piranhas. I've read here in the forum that people use paper to dim the light. I tried it and it gives the effect im looking for but I was wondering if over time it will burn paper.

Most standard lighting for a tank would have cool white bulbs, which don't even get hot, but if you have some different lighting system it's possible. What I do is candycane tape my light tubes with electrical tape, which ends up covering about half of the light, it gives a cool evening lighting effect and my P's swim around a lot more.

foil also works but it can be an eye sore. elec tape candy caned works good. I used cardboard in one of the thick fish bags, and it also worked fine.

i have used heavy paper. Like that stuff that file folders are made of... has worked great for me.

Agree, you can use common dark hard paper or electric tape!

i tinted the back half of the cover so i can move the light forward or backward
for light works great
