I need to keep my water at this PH, what type of chemicals do I need to keep it STABLE at this PH for about 5-10 hours? And I only need about 5 gallons of water stabilized for a small tank, for small ammount of time, so should I put the chemicals in a 5g bucket with water, and put that in the tank? Also, will the fish get hurt, cus they are usually in PH of 7.5...?

Hey Filo, RO water should have a low pH. If you really need such an extremely low pH RO water would be a good choice. Having your pH that low might affect the nitrifying bacteria. Why do you need water at a pH that low?

The fish will get hurt if you change that pH that drastically. You will have to do it very gradually.

I need to change the PH to trigger spawning. What about that PH down chemical? If I change the PH gradually through the week, and then setup the tank for mating when ph is low, would that be good?

You want to avoid PH shock!! very fatal.. IMO you probably need to lower the PH over a period of a couple weeks.. (if not longer)

Will the PH hold if i dont change the water. Like if I add PH down and the next day, will it be the same PH? All I have in the tank is the filter, bubble stone, sand and my fish. So-will the PH stay low as long as I dont put any other water in the tank?

It really depends on the alkalinity of the water. If the KH level is high it will be tough to change and keep the pH stable. The bases neutralizes the acid allowing the water's pH to bounce back to a higher level. That's why I suggested RO water because you can adjust the pH and KH to your desired levels.

Filo 5.0-5.5 won't work in an aquarium. You're nitrifying bacteria will die off.
