I bought a 120 gal tank from Pets Mart and was curious on what filter system i should get. There will only be 3 piranha in there for a while and they are only 3 inches at the moment. I have a friend that is going to let me borrow a whisper 5 for a while and i am pretty sure that do till i get more piranhas. When that happenes what should i get?

The tank came with an under gravel filter should i evern bother with is to clean the accumulation of poo in the gravel? The gravel i am going to use is a little bit smaller than pea gravel, will that be ok cause it is free?

What should i do to get the water in the 120 gal ok for the piranhas? Should i take some of the water out of the tank the P's are in now and put it in there with treated water?

And what kind of fish should i put in the large tank to get the water ok for the P's. One of my P's has something wrong with him so should i do something special to teh water in the big tank?

sorry bout so many questions......i am fairly new at this adn all the books at the library just had info on the fish.

dont know much about whispers, but no way one hang on filter could do the job in a 120. On my 135 I have 2 ac500's and a fluval 404. I personally never liked the undergravel filters. And about your one fish being sick, I would treat them in the smaller tank while you finish setting up the 120. It's cheaper to treat a smaller tank. I would use as much water, gravel and media from the established tank to help cycling period. I would use abut 10 to 15 large feeders in the 120 while treating p's in small tank. Dont worry about asking questions that is one purpose for this board.

you should clean the gravel by rinseing it with cold-room temp water, if you use hot water you will kill of the bacteria that has formed - this will help with the cycling process.
you can use undergravel filters - I do and I like them, but some on this board don't like them.
as for setting up the large tank look here

you don't need to add old water to your new tank IMO but it will not harm the fish if you do.

as for treating the ill piranha - what is wrong with it?
but you will find it easyer to treat in a smaller tank because it will use less medication, but when re-introducing it you should re-arange the tank decorations to reduce aggression

oh, and what Gargoyle said
