Hello all.

I hope I've posted in the correct place, this could fall under feeding or water problem. I really could do with some help/advice on this one please.

Up until recently all has been good. Fish are doing and feeding well and water is as should be. A few days ago I started to notice only what I could describe as little white particles floating around in the water. I syphoned most of them out while doing a water change and refilled the tank. All looked goodonce the haze had cleared and these particles were down to a minimum.
24 hours or so later they'd all returned and the tank was looking the same again. I repeated the water change, 24 hours later the same again.
Jumping forward a few days and this problem is really starting to develop. I've also just notice one or two little white worms crawling on the glass. My only guess here is that I may have introduced something into the tank from feeding the fish fresh Squid that I bought from the local supermarket. It's the only thing that I can think of because as I've previously mentioned I've had no problems at all until now.
At first I considered that it may have been the water supply all of a sudden but my other tank is absolutely fine. I've also checked my neighbours tanks as we're both coming off the same supply. Both of his tanks are problem free. I can only conclude that I've introduced something myself.
My question here is apart from giving the tank a thorough clean, check the filter, pull the pipes through and giving the sand a hoovering is there anything that I could add to the water to help speed the process up? I know I have to be careful with what I can dose because of Piranha sensitivity to certain things. I have considered using the API Accu Clear because I've read that it will bind whatever is in the water and I can just hoover it up from the sand. I'm just wondering if it would any good for this particular problem.

Any help, info or advice on this one would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your time.

Small white worms sounds like planaria, maybe there is a piece of food stuck somewhere. Pics would help but google planaria and if that’s what they are they are harmless just keep up the maintenance and it will go away.

Thanks Trigga.

I have given Planaria & Detritus some consideration but how to get rid is another question. I gave everything a good going over the day after my intial post. It seemed to do the trick and 24 hours later everything was looking 95% better. I got rid of pretty much all those nasty white bits floating around plus the water was much clearer. I did try the API Accu Clear which obviously helped. I've just done a water change this morning and noticed a few white worms climbing the inside of the tank which I wiped away. Bits that were floating around in the water I just syphoned out and are now back to a minimum. After re-filling I have noticed that there are worm-like particles floating in the water still. Though they're very thin compared to the ones that I'd wiped from the glass.
I've been having a read on how to get rid of them but some methods I just wouldn't consider. However, the baking soda or vinegar method/s do seem the most effective I just don't know if either will harm the fish. I know Piranha are sensitive to certain things.
