What does it mean when sometimes I see my reds rub their side on the gravel?Makes no sense to me,The only explanation is to me is that they are itchy.Please give me some info on this.

It's normal behavior for them to scratch once in a while. If they do it all the time, that means they might have ick or fungus. Take a good look at them!
You scratch yourself once in a while too, no biggie.

It is called flashing and it is normal. Like rchan said....not a big deal unless you see some reason for this (ich or another external parasite) or they are really scraping their sides.

my last lot of red belly's used to do it now and again as well , i was concerned when they first did it but read up on here and it explained that they itch like us and need to scratch ....so do fish have feelings if they can feel an itch ?

mine do it all the time i thought they were scratching/showing off and establishing the pecking order for the tank

when you get an itch you scratch it, that all they are dooing, no big deal unless you see an external parasite.

so it is normal? mine were doing it yester day, they would scrap the gravel just swoop sideways, for a sec everynow and then. Today they aren't doing it so maybe they were "flashing"

once in awhile its ok... if its constant then you could have water problems.., they could have ich, gill flukes, or other external parasites
