Hi there all. I was interested in getting a pet fish for sometime. Cats and dogs are messy.

I had a gold fish and fighting fish before but as an inexperienced pet fish owner they died which made me feel bad for sometime cause i should have taken better care of the fish.

The gold fish must have died because of not cleaning the water.

I didn't have a proper tank.

The golden fish were placed inside a fish bowl non of those fan things that pump in oxsigen. Is that why they died ???? As i said i'm very inexperienced but i wish to learn.

Anyway i thought i'd get a piranha.

I live in Malaysia.

I've alwats been fascinated by Piranha's.

You can take a look about a piranhas skull here:

http://www.calacademy.org/exhibits/skulls/...d_function.html

Hm piranha skull helmets x.x;

Anyway i wanted some advise about getting started.

What stuff do i need to give the piranha a good comfortable life, What do they eat, do they need some fish buddies, and anything else.

What's a good aquarium for them ?

Nothing too expensive. Something thats spacey for the piranha and moderate.

I'm just hoping of getting one piranha cause i can take care of it better than.

I'm gonna place my aquarium next to my computer desktop while i'm playing counter strike and it can watch me play and stuff and i'll give it something to eat.

Some boyhood fantasy of mine

Anyway i really hope somebody can help me on this thnx. Birthday's coming up soon so

And before anyone asks no i'm not going to release the fish into the wild =^-^= i don't see why anyone would if it was to cause an ecological unbalance and etc from the introduction of alien species into a habitat they aren't from.

*take a look at farmers importing sugar cane frogs to aussy.

Ineffective in getting rid of the bug pests and it cause more problems.

Anyway thnx upfront

Welcome to the site,

If your looking to keep a single piranha you should get one of the Serrasalmus species because they are still mean and aggresive living alone. If you got a single specimen of the Pygocentrus speciesthey would be lonely because they are supposed to be in groups. The tank size depends on the fish you want. Look in the factsheets (which can be found at the top of the screen). Scroll down to Serrasalmus and look at the fish in there to see which one you like. What kinds of piranhas are at your LFS?

he hit the nail on the head there - if you only want one fish then get a serra (look at the 3rd handy link)

If you want to direct any more questions my way then you can PM me - and that goes for anyone

Oh, and is there a Rumple in your family?

With the proper setup and knowledge of how to build that setup he should have no problems taking care of the piranha if he's willing to put in the time and energy that must be dedicated to this hobby. It is in no way like raising goldfish or bettas. There is real work behind keeping water conditions stable and your piranha's comfortable. If you're willing to put forth the energy and time then go for it...if you think you're too busy...buy some guppies.
