and the only way to tell what kind is to find out what river they were collected in

a rohm is a rohm is a rohm, they are all the same, except for slight varations in apperance based on collection points.

The 1st one is clearly a Rhom due to the red eyes which is a dead giveaway.. the 2nd can be an Irritan.. but definately a Serra specie.

Yes.. thats the dead give-away. Only Rhoms have red eyes, red tint as well, in their ealry stages.

There are more serra-species with red eyes than just Rhoms, although their eyes are not as bright blood-red as Rhoms - Spilo's and Sanchezi for example...

Splio CF/Sanchezi are the same fish and Frank mentioned they most closely belong to the rhombeus family so I think it's still accurate to say only rhoms really have red eyes.

The second fish could be anything, most serras look pretty alike at that size.
