I have a p's that's been breathing pretty heavy, and someone told me to check my parameters, and for someone that has never done it before, I'm like

in my head. I'm pretty sure it's self explanitory but it's still new to me and I have a thing about not wanting to take chances. Is there really anything to it to be cautious about?

Its a good idea to have a water test kit to check parameters. Things like Ammonia and Nitrite, nitrate, KH and PH are the most useful. Someone told you to check water parameters because a change/high level of one of these could be responsible.

It will tell you on the bottle/pack how to do it. The best ones are ones where you fill a test tube with 5ml of tank water and add chemicals from a botlle. You then just check colour against a chart and get your reading.
