hi all, i have a 50 gallon, with woods, plants and black sand, i can put cariba into this tank ?
how many fish ?
i think to 3 or 4 cariba, but it's too much ???

I would go with 3, you could probably put 4 in, but you run a higher risk of increased aggression.

I have 3 reds in a 55 and they still are aggressive towards eachother. Given that caribe are even more territorial than reds i would not go with more than 3.

I would start out with 3-4 juvenile cariba's but they wouldn't be able to live in that tank for life due to the higher aggression/territorial behavior than red's.

Cariba will get too big for that tank, you could probably keep 3 in that until they get to about 7" which doesnt take long

in france, we always say that reds are trues piranhas, but there, it's the caribe the most agressif ?

Although some will say Cariba are more aggressive/territorial than reds, I have had many different experiences with each species, which leads me to believe it is more based on the individual fish than the species.

No, I am saying that within each species you will find aggressive and territorial fish, as well as skittish fish. IMO how they act as a shoal depends on the individual fish making up that shoal.

Believe me, you don´t want to get a Red if you can get a Cariba!

Im with Jeff on this one. And honestly, 3 Caribas wont be as exciting than a bigger shoal with your Rbs together.

There are three species of true piranha: redbelly, cariba and piraya.
These three species are considered potentially dangerous to man (they could kill a man, if (s)he would be unlucky enough to fall into a shoal of hungry/frenzied piranha's), but none is a true man-killer. That's just a bad myth...

Yeah Caribas and Pirayas are expensive.. but like they say, "the better ones are always expensive". Not that Im down playing RBs or other Ps. But Caribas and Pirayas have certain personalities and looks that most Ps cant compete with.
