they'll probably put you under local. not sure about recovery and pain though. i'd imagine that you'd be pretty much bed ridden for at least a couple weaks...no heavy lifting or stress, etc.

try googling it.

I was put under completely. I was bed/couch ridden for 2-3 weeks. It was pretty damn painful for most of the 2-3 weeks. I'm assuming you are talking about an abdominal hernia not a back hernia. Anytme you flex you stomach muscles it hurts.....BTW you flex your stomach muscles pretty much anytime you move. The one thing that helped was to put a rolled up towel over the area and kinda hold it there when you have to walk.

They gave me Percosets for the pain but they made me throw up which could have been the most painful thing ever. I didn't take anymore of those needless to say.

ONE BIT OF ADVICE DO NOT SNEEZE COUGH OR THROWUP. Do everything you can to avoid doing these. After you do it once you will realize not to do it again. Laughing is also pretty bad so don't watch any funny movies while in bed.

They knock you out completely. You can go home almost right after the surgery, but its painful to be on your feet, so you get a wheelchair to get to the car. You'll be pretty drugged up that day, so you'll sleep mostly. Next day is a bitch, because you'll try to get out of bed but it'll be too painfull to be on your feet. So pop the painkillers they give you, wait a bit, then move to wherever you plan on being for the rest of the day. I can't remember how long i was doing this for, but couldn;t have been much more than a week. It might be less painful, but i was about 9 at the time so it seemed painful.

Well, I went to see a surgeon about getting it done. He said mine is the perfect time to do surgery. I worked for a reatly for about 4 years, and I got a 500 lbs. Washer Dryer stack unit dropped on me. That was this summer. Since then I knew I had it, but I ignored it. Now that it is consistantly painful, I gotta get it done. I run and weight lift every day. I can't do that until I get it fixed. So I told him as soon as possible...

He said, "I have an opening tomorrow at 10am."

Crap.

So I will be able to answer my own questions tomorrow evening, and in a few weeks after everything is said and done.

My only complaint is that I can't gym it up for 6-8 weeks! That is just torture.

Thanks for the replies folks.

I am headed to my folk's house so they can take me to the hospital tomorrow. I am having surgery at 10am central time. I would appreciate if you could remember me in prayer about that time. I hate hospitals.

Be back in the forum sometime later this week I hope.
