alll my water perameters are good and stable but for some reason i have had a huge nitrate spike the tank is fully cycled and there is no food or anything lying around the last 2 days i have done 20% water change and i usually do 25% weeklly. how do i bring theese down to a level where they are stable, will biospira or anything like that help? im doing my waterr changes but i wantthe problem fixeed....but the way the p's seem alright hasnt affected them yey.

Hey piranawick, have you tested your source water for nitrAtes? What kind of filter(s) are your running? Sometimes a good cleaning of the mechanical media in aquarium water in a bucket will help. Water changes are the best offensive to nitrAtes and to remove them.

Listen to smithgrind who and look into cleaning that media. It is quite uncommon but tap water does sometimes have maeasurable amounts of nitrate.

Nitrate isn't very toxic to fish and although that is a high level of it they will be fine.
