I woke up this morning to find my piranha face down in the corner. We moved him, but he's still at a severe angle. What do I do?

To give a little more context, all we did was added some water last night (I think my husband filled it too high) and turned it up one degree (to 81). We took water out, put in an extra oxygenator, and put the temp back. I'm afraid to come home from work... he is old. We've had him 14 years and he was full-grown when we got him...

Checked water levels. Nitrate is high so will fix that on my way home, but anything else?? Any other thoughts?

Brand new to keeping piranhas. Sadly, 14 years is well into the 10-20 year range that a redbelly piranha(assuming that's what you have) should live. 81 degrees is slightly too warm but that shouldn't be the much of a problem. Just some questions but have you been doing your water changes? Is the water dirtier or cleaner than usual? Does the filter have a good filter cartridge? Outside of regulating the temperature and checking the water parameters, the only things I can think of are its diet and if the water is properly being maintained. Sorry if I haven't been very helpful.

Yes, he's RBP and we've been doing water changes. Ended up figuring this one out, we think, but thank you! I was honestly TERRIFIED of coming home after work, afraid of what I'd find.

I do appreciate the response!! ♥
