What size tank is that (I know that there is high and non high etc, but what size around) and what could go in there if anything?

IMO the only fish for life would be an irritan. Any other serra could go in there for a while if you bought it small. Pygos would outgrow that tank too quickly for it really to be worth putting them in there, unless you have a bigger tank ready to go.

probably somewhere around 30 gals

30 gallons is pretty small for Ps. You might be able to keep a smaller irritan in there since they dont get to large.
