my friend just bought a black banned piranha and he was told it grows 1" per year.I think thats bullshit.what is the growth rate.

His P will grow 3-5" 1st couple of years then growth rate will slow down to 1" a year after that.

Get a picture of your friend's "rhom" if you can....
I'm no expert but I think Spilos don't get nearly as big as Rhoms can.
I could be wrong though...

When did spilos get tagged with that common name? There's no reason for a spilo to be called "black banded".

Serrapygo,, at my local lfs's they write Black Banded Piranhas on the tank. When I asked wat their real name was he looked it up in a fish book and it was a nickname for a serrasalmus spilopleura.

yeah it is from safari.

Thats wierd caus I called Safari and they said they had 2 Black banded P's ( spilos ) and that they just got 2 new P's that wer black Piranhas. One of those black banded p's even looks like a baby red. Ur friend shoulda got the ones labelled as black p's. It would more of a sure thing that theyre rohms.
