After using a water conditioner to eliminate metals and hardness in the water, how necessary is it to be testing for them? How can they get back into the water? How dangerous are they?

Water conditioners (some of them) remove only a few heavy metals from the water.
These will come back whenever you change water. You see tap water contains some of those.

Usually you do not have to pay attention to them.

But tht topic: KH (alkalinity) and GH (total hardness) really has nothing to do with heavy metals.
So what is it you want to know about those?
Have you measured the pH yet.
